The Box Tops Equipment Sweepstakes will shed light on funding challenges
facing school nutrition programs.
MINNEAPOLIS (July 10, 2023)—General Mills Foodservice and Box Tops for Education are teaming up to give school feeding programs the chance to win key equipment necessary to keep students well-fed and ready to learn. The Box Tops Equipment Sweepstakes, running now through July 31, 2023, will award more than $100,000 in foodservice equipment to schools, including breakfast carts, snack/cereal racks and smoothie kits. Since 1996, Box Tops for Education has helped more than 80,000 schools earn cash to purchase items such as library books, art supplies and playground equipment.
The Box Tops Equipment Sweepstakes, where entrants have the opportunity to share the challenges they have faced as foodservice operators, is part of an effort to shed light on the extreme funding shortages that school nutrition programs face nationwide. School foodservice operators can submit an entry online or by visiting the General Mills Foodservice booth (#1563) at the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference in Denver, July 9-11, 2023.
“School nutrition professionals go above and beyond to feed their students despite ongoing challenges that include everything from staffing shortages and inflation to lack of equipment,” said Sarah Wolfe, senior marketing manager at General Mills Foodservice. “General Mills Foodservice is bringing the Box Tops platform to our operators, kicking off with the equipment sweepstakes, to spotlight the challenges K-12 school nutrition teams are facing each and every day.”
Wolfe adds that General Mills plans to highlight K-12 operators who are making a difference in their schools in a series of videos set to roll out later this year.
