Our Gold Medalâ„¢ Honey Cornbread mix turns into a comforting spoon bread served with a dollop of whipped sorghum butter.

Spoonbread
  1. Whisk milk, eggs and melted butter together in large mixing bowl; add cornbread mix and salt.
  2. Stir together until combined; batter will be lumpy.
  3. Pour into greased 2-inch deep half hotel pan; bake as directed below until knife inserted in center comes out clean and spoonbread begins pulling away from sides.

*Rotate pans baked in convection oven one-half turn (180°) after 12 minutes of baking.
Sorghum Butter
  1. Add softened butter in bowl of mixer fitted with paddle attachment; mix on medium speed 1-2 minutes.
  2. Stop mixer and scrape down bowl; add sorghum syrup and salt.
  3. Mix on medium speed for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  4. Stop mixer and scrape down bowl; mix 1-2 minutes until well incorporated.
Serve
  1. Serve 3.5 oz (#6 scoop) hot spoonbread with a 0.5 oz (#70 scoop) of room temperature sorghum butter.

  • Tip: Bake and serve in cast iron skillet if desired; adjust baking times as needed.
